20-09: Hello, dear, how bad is the second (1930′) frame please? Was it the original one, probably? Any idea of the restoration, history? Thanks, sincerely yours, Jean.

20-09: Hello, The bad frame is indeed the original frame (1930). It can be restored.
I have restorated some things, but not much. It’s hardly restored. Yours sincerely, Koos.

21-09: Hello Koos, Thanks for the quick answer. I tryed to play at the game of the “seven errors” with your bike, but you may better tell me what is from the original 1930′ modell, what is not? Is the gear box the original? What is the history you know about it ? What have you restored? What is missing? etc.. all what you know is interesting me. Do you have more detailed pictures please? sincerely yours, Jean.

21-09: Hello Jean, I bought the Rudge about 1984 in Portugal. I restored some parts, like the wheels, and the gearbox partially. The gearbox is the original, as far as I know. There are not many parts missing. But there is a lot of work to do. A year later I bought in Portugal a Harley Davidson. It was much easier to become parts, so I restored it. I am driving the Harley-Davidson since 1989. And the Rudge stayed in parts in our house. In januari 2017 I decided to sell the Rudge and put it together with help from a friend of my. I will send you more pictures. Yours sincerely, Koos.

22-09: Hello Koos, Thanks a lot for the story, as I was working in Portugal years ago, I am curious of the region where you found it? Yes an Harley is easier to restore than a rudge, which model is your portuguese HD that you ride? I am very busy now, I will have a look carefully at the pictures on next sunday, but I did not resist to open a couple of files, yes you are right it seems a big job to restore it. I will recontact you soon, Jean.

22-09:  Hello Jean, I bought the Rudge in the near of Figueira da Foz. The Harley-Davidson is a Flathead. Yours sincerely, Koos.

24-09: Hi Koos, I was also in Figueira da Foz once, riding from Lisbonn to Coimbra..  is your flathead an old one, from the WW2 period? About the Rudge: many thanks for the good pictures, very much to do I think, even if it is “only” a special, it needs that someone restore it well.. and it must to be back on the road. The REC is a good way to. Did you joined someone of the club when you worked on it, is (was) this bike registrated at the REC? If you do not know, I will check that: I ride a 250cc from 36′ (joined picture), & I am in contact with the club. When you said gear-box partially restored, what was done there, I know they are complicate to renew, with different sizes of many rollers and they do not like approximation, what was wrong with the gear box that needed your restoration, and how partially? What parts did you buy for that restoration, new or second hand (to know what is original from puzzle). Anything done on the engine, did you try to start it? lubrification / circulation of oil, was it tested? Concerning the selling price, did you have some offers yet? Since you decided to sell it in January, did you tried to sell it in your country or Belgium or Germany, they are many “oldtimer” markets there. As you remarked, I am living in France, I can travel to the North quiet easely, but I want to be sure that it is not for nothing, that is why I ask so much questions, sorry for that! I will be busy all the week (working in Normandy, & far from the computer / email), take the time to list what is wrong, what is good on that Rudge, if you have time please: I will be back on saturday. sincerely, Jean.

28-09: Hello Jean, The H-D is from 1940. Beautiful Rudge! I did not join a club. I put new rollers in the gearbox on one shaft. The engine doesn’t start. I didn’t do restore anything on the engine. Nothing was tested. Friends advised me to sell it through Car and Classic. I am negotiating with another who is interested. As said in earlier mails and also in the advertisement: there is a lot of work to do. That’s why I am not to positive in my mails/advertisement. Otherwise you might be disappointed in the future. Yours sincerely, Koos.

29-09: Hi Koos, WW2 period’ HDs are so important in our motorbike culture in France, as they contribute so much to drop out the green-grey R12.. my father used to drive one in the early 60′, he bought  it in a metal recycling factory for nothing ( or better he saved it from recycling..) and later he exchanges it against a 500 Norton, I sadly have no picture from the HD. Yes my little 250 Rudge is well restored and is handling and running well, a real pleasure. I want to do the same with a 500cc now, that is why you & me are in a contact together: tell me at what level of the negotiation your are >>simply, what is your actual/limit price (in euros please). Notes that I appreciate your details / description of the Special and the honesty by  being not too positive as many seller usually try to do. Rudgely yours,  Jean.

01-10: Hi Koos, Me again, tell me when we can have a telephone call, please: what time which day is better for you? It is because I know since yesterday that  I will be busy on the road ( no email) at the end of the week (living the thursday the 5th to the 14 October). Rudgly yours,  Jean.

01-10: Hello Jean, (Rudgely yours. Nice!) I did not reply your mail yet, because it seems that the other person has bought the Rudge. But there are some details to fix. As soon as I know more I will inform you. Yours sincerely, Koos.

01-10: Hello Koos, at what price, just to be ready if.. as I need a 500 now.. Thanks
Jean ps: I am so fond of my Rudge that I invented the “rudgely yours”, never seen everywhere else: so thanks for the remark!
